Texas A&M University in College
Station
opened in 1876 as the first public institution of higher learning in
Texas. Texas A&M was the first land, sea and space grant University in the
country. The 5,200 acre campus is also home of the George Bush
Presidential Library. Over 45,000 students are enrolled in the undergraduate, graduate and
professional programs and the University is ranked in the top 10
nationally in overall research expenditures, overall
enrollment, and the number of national merit scholars. Texas A&M
University is part of a statewide system of nine universities and also
includes Agricultural and Engineering Experiment Station Laboratories
throughout Texas.
Program Information:
The Interdisciplinary Faculty of Toxicology (IFT) is composed of faculty and graduate students from seventeen departments in six colleges and three associated laboratories, and is housed administratively based within the Department of Veterinary Physiology & Pharmacology. Admission to the toxicology programs requires approval by both the IFT and an academic department. Completion of a thesis/dissertation is required for the M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Toxicology. All students are required to complete a core curriculum of courses in toxicology, physiology, biochemistry and statistics. In addition, toxicology electives may be selected from a number of advanced courses providing additional training within the subdisciplines of cellular and molecular toxicology, reproductive, developmental and neurotoxicology, and environmental and applied toxicology & food safety.
